Gastric glands of stomach secrete gastric juice that contains pepsin, hydrochloric acid, water and mucus. Pepsin is an enzyme that digests protein, hydrochloric acid provides acidic medium for pepsin to function, mucus lubricates the chyme (food pulp) and water dilutes food for proper mixing. Thus, if stomach does not secrete gastric juices, all these reactions would have been stopped.
