why always there is a ing after the tense in the continuos tense

The continuos tense denotes the action that is in progress or continuation. As per the grammar rules, we add -ing to the base form of verb to form the continuos tense.

 For example:

  • She was doing her homework. ('homework' was in progress)
  • I am speaking over the phone. ('speaking' is in progress)

  • 0

because 'ing' defines that the work is still continuouing

  • 1
