why are ionic compounds are hard crystalline solids???

Ionic crystals are hard because the positive and negative ions are strongly attracted to each other and difficult to separate. The strong forces of attraction between ions in the ionic compounds forms strong interlinked bonding which makes the ionic compound hard and require very high energy to break them.

because the force of attraction between the ions is very strong.

As Ionic compounds have strong intermolecular force of attraction between them , so that force binds them together which makes them solid, which is hard.

Cheers!

Best of Luck!
