Why baking soda is used for bread

Dear Student,

Baking soda, also know as Sodim hydrogen carbonate/ Sodium bicarbonate acts as a leavening agent, thus is used in baking goods like cakes, muffins and breads. It becomes activated when combined with both an acidic medium and liquid. Baking soda produces carbon dioxide upon activation, which helps the baked goods rise and become fluffy, light and soft.
