why can a pace as a footstep not be used as a standard unit of length

Hi. A pace or a footstep cannot be used as a standard unit of length because everybody's bodyparts are different in size and this causes confusion in the measurement of an object that is why we need some common set of units to measure things. These common set of units are International System of Units (SI Units)

Hope my answer helps :) . Cheers!!!
