why chloropigment-a imporatant in algae
Dear Student,
All plants, cyanobacteria, and algae which photosynthesize contain chlorophyll "a". Chlorophyll-a is present in all groups of algae. Chlorophyll-a is essential because it is able to capture light wavelengths that fall in the spectrum of sunlight. Once captured by chlorophyll-a, sunlight combines with water and carbon dioxide to produce glucose molecules and energy to power the algal cell functions.
Chlorophyll-a is a green pigment and it gives algae its natural green color.
Regards.
