why did British declare Bahadur Shah Zafar as the last ruler of Mughal Dynasty?

British wanted to bring an end to the Mughal dynasty.In order to do so the British removed the name of the Mughal king from the coins minted by them . Lord Dalhousie announced that after the death of the Mughal ruler- Bahadur Shah Zafar ,the family of the ruler would be shifted out of the Red Fort. Also Lord Canning decided that Bahadur Shah Zafar would be the last Mughal king and after his death his descendants would not be recognised as kings- they would just be called as princes.
