Why did Joe prefer to stay outside his house?

Joe Morgan preferred to stay outside the house because he was tensed. His wife was about to deliver their first child after being married for nearly twenty years. He was nervous that whether the child and his wife both will be healthy or not . Staying out and waiting made him feel calm rather than being inside where he felt stressed because he could not see his wife in such situations.
