Why did Taplow laugh when he heard Mr.Crocker-Harris' joke ? Why did Frank laugh ?
PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION FAST...

Dear student,

The incident which Taplow narrates in order to show that Crocker-Harris preferred not to be liked by anyone happened in class over a joke in Latin which the teacher had made. Taplow was the only one who understood and laughed at the joke. Crocker-Harris noticed this occurrence and commented that he was pleased at the advance that Taplow's Latin had made since he readily understood what the rest of the form did not. However, he wanted Taplow to explain the joke so that the rest of the class could also share in the pleasure. This seems to have been quite an acerbic reply to a seemingly innocuous joke and Taplow's enjoyment of it. Instead of praising him for understanding the Latin joke, Crocker-Harris seems to have upbraided the poor boy.
Frank laughed at the joke in good spirit.

Regards
