why did the master blacksmith not object to the tramps coming in without permission?

Often many poor vagabonds who did not have any better shelter for the night came to the forge for shelter. The blaze of the flames which escaped through the dirty panes of the forge attracted them. The poor people came there to warm themselves up. So as it was a common activity, the master smith did not object when the tramp went inside without permission. He just gave him a glance of indifference.
