Why did the narrator visit the village astrologer?

The first time he went, the narrator wanted to prepare the astrologer for what he wanted to say when he brought Ranga to him. The second time, it was because he wanted the astrologer to convince Ranga that Ratna was  to be his wife.
( Ranga was convinced but he wanted someone else to confirm his point of view )
