Why do bowlers wipe the ball?

Dear Student,

When the bowling team gets a ball, it is even on both the sides. The bowling side chooses a side of the ball to rub, and throughout the match they rub only one side of the ball
.Doing so the side which is rubbed becomes shinier and when the ball leaves the hand of the bowler the air on this side of the ball flows smoothly creating a low pressure area on this side while the other side which is rough the pressure on that side is more and hence when the ball is thrown the ball swings in the direction of the side which is shinier.

Also bowlers rub the ball using their pants or towels when they bowl at night. This is done to remove the dew from the ball so that they can grip the ball better.

Regards.
