Why do farmers need subsidiedand what are its purposes?

Subsidy is given to agriculture sector in which farmers get input at lower prices than the market price.
The purpose behind this is that the farmers can adopt of new technology. As agriculture is a risky occupation. And the condition of farmer is very poor since the time of economic reform 1991.
