why do gases move endlessly?

Gas : A substance is said to be gaseous if it neither possesses a definite volume nor a definite shape. This is because they fill up the whole vessel in which they are put. For eg. - hydrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, etc. Molecules in the gaseous state have high kinetic energy due to which they can move freely because of the weaker forces of attraction amongst them. And that is why they move endlessly.  For eg.- hydrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, etc.

Gases have no definite shape or volume because the molecules of gas are far apart due to weak forces of attraction due to which they are continuously moving filling the available space.

Gases exert pressure on the walls of container because of the high velocity of the molecules of the gases.

Gases diffuse easily due to a lot of space between the molecules of gases

Gases have low density because of the large space between the molecules resulting in few molecules per unit volume.

Gases are compressed easily due to little volume of gas molecules in comparision to the space occupied by the gas.

Hope this answers your query......
