why do plant cells need a cell wall and Animal cell do not

Dear Student, 

The major function of cell wall is to provide rigidity and strength and also provide mechanisms for plants to take up water. Since animals are blessed with movement and have a body plan which imparts them strength, hence they do not need a cell wall.
