why do plants die in water logged areas ??

is it coz there is a higher concentration of water in soil than minerals leading to reduction of active transport of minerals from soil to the plant ??

Plants which are adapted to water logged conditions will easily survive but when a land based plant gets water logged, it dies. Its mainly because soil gets fully saturated with water which leads to deficient oxygen supply to the roots and prevents carbon dioxide to diffuse away. Oxygen deficiency in roots causes a switch from aerobic to anaerobic respiration, which is
much less efficient in utilization of organic compounds as energy sources and results in
accumulation of toxic end products such as ethanol As a result, root function gets reduced or stops and the roots start to die off.
