Why do we use Steel for making a permanent magnet in place of soft iron

Dear student,
Steel has high retentivity and high coercivity.
Coercitivity of soft iron is less than steel .It means that soft iron loses its magnetism more rapidly than steel.
A permanent magnet must have these characteristics, so steel is preferred for making permanent magnet.
