Why do we use transverse wave to represent propagation of sound ( we use amplitude, crest and trough in transverse wave) while sound is a longitudinal wave?

Dear student, The term you mentioned are for waves not specifically transverse waves. Waves only differ in the way they propogate, otherwise compression and rarefaction are equivalent to crest and trough. Hope you understand. Regards
