why does a bar magnet always point towards the north side when suspended freely????what is present in the north direction as one of the side of bar magnet always faces towards it.

Dear student,

Freely suspended magnet always points in north-south direction in the absence of any other magnets. Because the earth itself behaves as magnet which causes a freely suspended magnet to point always in a particular direction: north-south.The south pole of the earth's magnet is in the geographical north because it attracts the north pole of the suspended bar magnet and vice-versa.

but always remember that- A freely suspended magnet does not show exact geographical South and North because the magnetic axis and geographical axis of the Earth do not coincide.
