why does ant meet each other when they pass on

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

The ants have antennae in place of nose to smell. When they meet with other ants, they strike their antennae in them to communicate with each other. By this, they get signals related to availability of food or sometimes exchange food. This why it seems like they are passing over each other.
