why does our voice echo on the hills

The reflection of sound is called echo.
Echo is heard only when surfaces are far away. Echo is heard on hills because there is no object to absorb the sound. We do not hear echo normally because there are objects near us which absorb the sound and therefore we do not hear the echo.
