Why does the Hormone affects the funtions of another cell or tissue?

Dear student,

A hormone is a non nutrient chemical messenger which is secreted in small amount by a gland in case of animals and acts on distant target cells within a specific organ. They regulate physiological processes in living organisms.  They act on specific cells by binding to the receptors present either on that cell’s plasma membrane or inside the cell.
Receptors are specialised protein molecules.  After formation of receptor hormone complex, a cascade of events is started in a cell to control particular activity of cell.

Hormones also control the function of entire organs.
Hormones ALSO cause cellular changes by binding to receptors on target cells. The number of receptors on a target cell can increase or decrease in response to hormone activity.
Hormones can affect cells directly through intracellular hormone receptors or indirectly through plasma membrane hormone receptors.

Regards.
