it is slow down as to settle the sand and other dust particles and then remove the upper sand free water.

in grit the speed is fast but in sedimentation the speed is lower because there are many particles or substances which are not removed from the water so to remove these substances the pressure is slower down so that all the impurities may settle down and could be removed
