Why don't they inhale O2?

Dear student,

Yeasts are the microorganisms that can live and grow with or without oxygen(anaerobic respiration). They can live without oxygen by a process called fermentation. The yeast cells take in simple sugars like maltose and glucose and produce large amounts of carbon dioxide and alcohol as waste products during fermentation. Therefore, they are being used in the wine and bakers industry.

It is not the way that they do not consume oxygen at all, but they can switch to aerobic or anaerobic respiration depending upon the availability of oxygen. They have an alternate pathway to obtain their energy.

Regards.
