why droplets of water appear on the surface of a glass full of ice cold water

The air around the glass contains water vapours in it. When these water vapours come in contact with the cold, outside surface of glass, they condense to form tiny drops of liquid water and hence we see the water droplets on the outer surface of a glass containing ice cold water.

The cooled surface of the glass full of ice cold water  cools the air around it and the water vapour of the air condenses on the surface of the glass full of ice  cold water . So droplets of water appear on the surface of a glass full of ice cold water.

 because of condensation

air around the glass full of ice cold water gets cooled and the water vapour present in it condenses into water . As a result, droplets of water appear on the surface of a glass full of ice cold water.
