Why gold, silver, lead and Copper do not react with water at all?

Dear Student,
Metals react with water and produce metal oxides and hydrogen gas. The reaction depends upon the reactivity of metals. But metals such as lead, silver, gold and copper do not react with metals at all.Gold and silver do not react with water at all ,because gold and silver are least reactive and the surface of metallic lead is protected by a thin layer of lead oxide, PbO. Hence, it does not react with water under normal conditions.
Regards.

Metals such as lead, copper, silver and gold do not react with water at all. Non-metals do not displace hydrogen because they form negative ions by accepting electrons while hydrogen like metals forms a positive ion. Therefore metals can displace hydrogen while non-metals cannot.
