Why has the economic status of some castes and races of indian society been weakening

The economic status of some castes and races of Indian society been weakening because India has undergone the process of social discrimination and exclusion during various periods of history. In the past, the economic and social status were closely linked to each other. But in the modern times, the link between caste and occupation has become much less rigid. There are no ritual-religious
prohibitions on occupational change. Hence, people from lower social status are also able to work in high paying jobs. Due to lack of education and employment opportunity, people from so-called higher social status are working in farms and small factories. These days rich and poor people are to be found in every caste. Another reason could be the convergence of people in different castes due to technology, inter-caste marriages, western culture, and globalization.
