Why heating of magnesium wire is a chemical change?????
Dear student,
When we heat Magnessium (Mg) in presence of air (oxygen), then it's oxide is formed. The reaction is as follows:
2Mg + O2 ------> 2MgO
This reaction takes place with evolution of a lot of heat & a white dazzling flame. The white oxide is a new product (different from reactants) and the change is irreversible. Therefore it is a chemical change.
Regards!
