Why iron and steel industries located in Jamshedpur?
1) Before 1947, there was only one iron and steel plant in our country namely, TISCO (Tata Iron and Steel Company)
2) It was owned privately and after Independence the government took the necessary steps and initiative and set up several iron and steel plants.
3) Geographically Jamshedpur is the most convenient place for setting up iron and steel centre in the country. This place was chosen for many reasons like it was only 32 km away from railway network and moreover, it was near to location advantage like availability of raw materials like iron ore, coal and manganese deposits etc
4) TISCO receives coal from Jharia coal fields and iron ore, limestone, manganese from Odisha and Chhatisgarh.
5) Additionally, the Subharnarekha rivers ensure sufficient water supply and government provided adequate capital for further expansion and development of steel plants in this region, Jamshedpur
