Why is alternating current is used in transformer

Dear Student,
Transformer work on principle of induction . We know induction produced only by changing current
(flux) . In transformer by changing current in one coil (primary coil) there is induced current in the
other coil ( secondary coil) . That is why we use AC current in transformer .

This means that as a coil is rotated in a magnetic field, the induced current reverses direction every half turn. This is called alternating current (AC). It is different from the direct current (DC) produced by a battery, which is always in the same direction.
