Why is Antractica the place to visit for understanding the earth's present ,past and future?

To visit Antarctica is to venture into that part of history when things used to be quite different, humans had not arrived on the global scene and the climate was much warmer, hosting a huge variety of flora and fauna. That piece of land gives us an idea of where we have come from and where we could possibly be heading. It holds the records of all the geological changes that have so far shaped the world as we know it.
