WHY is blood group knowledge not essential during serum transfusion?

Serum is a liquid component of the blood that has no cells (RBC, WBC and platelets), blood group antigens are present only on the surface of cells. Therefore since there are no cells in the serum but clear fluid so the blood group knowledge is not important for serum transfusion.
