Why is cytoplasm in case of sperm is highly reduced whereas, in the case of an ovum, it is not?

Dear Student

In sperm, there is cytoplasmic reduction. The cytoplasm of the spermatids that is no longer needed is phagocytized by Sertoli's cells. A clump of cytoplasm remain hanging on the neck and mid piece. of the sperm cells.
Spermatozoa with retained cytoplasmic droplets have defective function and elaborate excessive levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Cytoplasm of ovum is liquid containing organelles like mitochondria, Golgi apparatus. It intermediates the transfer of information between the individual organelles and assures the insemination process.

because the sperm contains only the genital information, while the egg caries all the other materials needed for development
