Why is drying of grains necessary?

Humidity in the grains can provide microorganisms a suitable environment for their growth. It leads to decomposition and wastage of the grains. Hence, proper drying of the grains before storage is mandatory.

There are basically two reasons for the drying of grains. As we have seen in our daily lives, before mopping the floor, water is sprinkled. This is done so, due to the ability of water to coagulate dust particles. Thus, wet grains too might become dusty, and may seem to be unfit for use. Also, due to the presence of water, the grains may begin to become soggy, and lose their quality. This is why grains are dried and stored before use.
