why is it that , that when we poke our nail into aut skin it holds the shape ????

Dear Student,
When we poke our nail into our skin and our skin holds its shape that is because of skin tissues which present in layers of our skin. Our skin composed of several layers. The very top layer is the epidermis and is the layer of skin we can see. The second layer of skin is the dermis. The dermis contains hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous (oil) glands, blood vessels, nerve endings, and a variety of touch receptors. The bottom layer is the subcutaneous tissue which is composed of fat and connective tissue. The layer of fat acts as an insulator and helps regulate body temperature. It also acts as a cushion to protect underlying tissue from damage when you bump into things. We see if we bump into a soft mattress or any soft cushion, the mattress or cushion protect our body from getting hit by the floor, bed or anything, they regains the shape of our body and head. Same way the tissues present in subcutaneous protect our skin from external force and works as cushion by gaining the shape of external force.
