why is it that when we take a cotton cloth and wet it the water reaches the floor we have kept on it but if we take many cotton cloths and keep it on each other than it does not reach the ground was observed ? Why is it so ?

Dear Student,

A piece of cotton cloth will absorb some amount of water.Water is absorbed by each thread in the cloth and the remaining water will wet the floor. When we take a stack of cloths, surface area increases. The stack of cloths have more surface area than a single piece of cloth and it will absorb the entire water. Therefore no water will be left to wet the floor.

Regards.
