Nucleotide breakdown is required in many cases such as in energy generation,the break down products of Nucleotide are used for salvage pathways etc..
For energy generation:-Breakdown of ATP leads to the generation of Energy.
Salvage pathway :- It is a pathway in which nucleotides (purine and pyrimidine) are synthesised from intermediates in the degradative pathway for nucleotides.
Salvage pathways are used to recover bases and nucleosides that are formed during degradation of RNA and DNA.
