In the poem, the ambience of the class room is extremely bad. The students have been deprived of the basic requirements of a school. For them its a place of no interest. Since their childhood, they have been locked in the slum, and are destined to spend their entire life there.
On the other hand, Shakespeare symbolises classic litrerature. His picture on the wall has no relevence for the students as it is beyond their imagination to understand its importance and relate to it. The students of the slum school are burdened with poverty, hunger and lack of nourishment. For them shakespeare is wicked as it portrays a wrong message/ example.
