why is the cathode ray tube attached to a vacuum pump?

A cathode ray tube is generally operated at a low air pressure. So, air has to be pumped out of the cathode ray tube. Therefore, it is usually connected to a vacuum pump.

This is to control the pressure.Gases can conduct electricity only under very low pressure and on supply of very high voltage.Only then can the cathode rays emerge.

hope this helps u

srry if iam wrong
