Why is tissue culture not recomended in houses?

Dear student,

Tissue culture is labour intensive, time consuming and costly. It requires a sterile work place and a good hands on training.
A tissue culture lab requires a wash area, media preparation area, transfer area, culture room and a green house. The kitchen can be used for tissue culture. But the transfer of culture needs a high sterile area like laminar air flow hood.  In the kitchen the possibility for contamination is very high. The culture room should have well controlled temperature, humidity, air circulation, light quality and duration of light exposure for incubation. These conditions are very hard to achieve in a kitchen. The normal functioning of kitchen will be difficult. A green house is also required for acclimatisation and hardening the new plantlets.

Regards.

it is not recommended in houses because moving in and out through doors may affect the flow of the hood.
