Why is vacuole absent in meristematic tissue???

  • -1

Vacuole is a cell organelle used to store waste materials and ergastic substances and usually big and more in number in mature cells. As meristematic cells are actively dividing and young cells, they do not have any waste material to store so vacuoles are usually absent in the meristematic cells .

Meristematic tissues are rapidly dividing cells which give rise to permanent tissues. To divide, meristematic tissues need dense cytoplasm and a soft cell wall. Vacoules provide turgidity and rigidity to cells . If vacoules are present in meristematic cells, then , meristematic cells will not be able to divide .

So , meristematic tissues lack vacoules .

hope it helps !!
