why is well water warmer in winter and cooler in summer?

We know water has high heat capacity compared to soil or land. That means water will take more time to lose or gain heat compared to land.

In summer days the surrounding temperature becomes high because of the sun’s heat. The water takes more time to get heated so when we take water from the well we feel it cooler than the surrounding.

In winter days the heat absorbed by the land during the day time is transmitted to the water and eventually the water gets heated. While the land cools down quickly, since, its heat capacity is low. So, when we take water from the well we feel it to be warmer than the surrounding.

actually well water's temperature remains around 27 degree C. as this temperature is warmer in winter than the surrounding where temperatures are below 25-20 degree C so we feel as it is warm. in summer the surrounding areas have temperatures above 30-35 degree C so we feel as if the well water is cool.

hope it helps!!!
