Why lysosomes release digestive enzymes ?

Dear student, Lysosomes are suicide bags of the cells as they contain digestive enzymes, and break down food, cellular debris and foreign invaders like bacteria. So they release these enzymes in the event when the cell is injured beyond repair, or becomes old. Regards
