Why O2+ has very strong o-o bond

=Dear student

Bond strength is directly proportional to the bond order. So we can tell why O2+ has strong O-O bond on calculating bond order.
Bond order = electron in bonding orbital - electron in antibonding orbital2
Bond can be calculated with the help of molecular orbital diagram

Image result for MO Diagram of O2

Bond order of O2 = 8-4/2 = 2
In O2+ , one electron is less than  O2  so the bond order of  O2+ is: 8-3/2 = 5/2 = 2.5

High bond order, so strong O-O bond.
