Why Poet is telling us how to kill or uproot a tree

Solution:
The poet tells us how to kill a tree, with an intention to sensitise us to conserve forests. Gieve Patel has used sarcasm to convey that trees also are living beings and feel the same pain and bleed (in the form of sap) as we would do if get hurt. He wants us to know and realise how painful it is to cut a tree and it is not merely cutting it but equivalent to kill a living being or taking someone's life away. He doesn't encourage us to kill trees, but wants us to preserve them.
