SPACESHIPS ARE PROVIDED WITH SPACESHIELDS SO THEY DO NOT CATCH FIRE DUE TO FRICTION OF AIR IN ATMOSPHERE AS WHEN THEY ENTER ATMOSPHERE FROM SPACE HIGH FRICTIONAL FORCE ACTS ON IT.SUCH AN INCIDENCE HAPPENED WITH KALPANA CHAWLA.

Because the frictiion created between the atmosphere and the belly of the spaceship would generate so much plasma that the metal would melt off and the shuttle would explode

this is because its when the spaceship come back from space it get heated due to earths atmosphere and and get red hot because of it its 10 time more powerful heat ti melt iron that's why it is provided with heat shield

bcoz to protect them from fire caused by friction of air while entering the earth's atmosphere from space.If they fail,the spacecraft catches fire and blasts.This happened in KALPANA CHAWLA
