Why the male (drones) have half the number of chromosome than that of a female honeybee

Dear Student,

During the development of eggs (within a queen), a diploid cell having 32 chromosomes divides to generate cells called gametes(Haploid) with 16 chromosomes. This results in haploid egg, with chromosomes having a new combination of alleles at the various loci.

Regards.
