Why The Rate Of Exchange Of Gases In Plants Is Much Slower Then In Animals?

Dear Student,

Plants do not have any specific respiratory organ such as gills, lungs, etc. The exchange of gases takes place through the stomata present on the surface of the leaves of the plant.
Animals use much more energy for their movement and hence they need to get oxygen quicker. Also, animals use more energy in the metabolic process and use lots of energy to maintain their body temperature. So, higher the energy demands, faster will be the rate of respiration. That is why animals need to respire quicker and the rate of exchange of gases is higher as compared to plants.
