why there is agap between 2 neurons?

The gap called synapse, between two neurons is for the communication between the two neurons and it can be either electrically or chemically.

At a synapse, the plasma membrane of the signal-passing neuron comes into close apposition with the membrane of the target cell. Both these sites contain extensive arrays of molecular machinery that link the two membranes together and carry out the signaling process.
