The cricket was dripping as it was snowing outside: for lack of shelter and food, it was not only wet and cold, but also hungry and starving!

You must be meaning why did the cricket drip wet... this may be because of the winter rains or in other words the result of the harsh climatic conditions... as he did not have any shelter to protect him from all this... because he spend all summer and spring singing and complaining, and not working hard for the winter
